Play the Guitar: Lesson 2

In the first part we've talked about music in general. Now let's talk about playing the guitar.

   My first chords

Yes, let's get right to it. There would be some other things that would deserve some attention (like selecting a guitar, tuning and so on), but we will just bypass them. For now.

The first chord is: E minor

The E minor Chord

This is one of the simplest chords possible, with just two fingers to use. The first finger, the pointing finger, goes on the second string, the middle finger goes on the third string. There is no other finger anywhere else. Just strike all strings with a pick and that's it! You're playing the guitar.

   The second chord is: G

The G Chord

This is also one of the simplest chords possible, but this time there is a third finger in play.  Not very difficult but... there is one more finger to pay attention to. The first finger, the pointing finger, goes on the second string, the middle finger goes on the first string and the ring finger goes on the last string.

That's it? I can play the guitar now? Sure! "Dancing in the dark" by Bruce Springsteen is mostly just these two chords, over and over again. There are some other chords too, obviously, but most of the song is made up by repeating these two chords one after the other.

To be continued...
